The first year we lived in our new home we decided to get a dog. We searched on KSL and found a Boxer that was 8 years old and had been rescued. Her chip was outdated and she had just had 8 pups and was approximately 6 years old. We decided she'd be a great fit and we wouldn't have to worry about potty training. We had a cat at the time and specifically asked if the person who'd found her knew if she did well with cats and she replied "yes" that she herself owned a few and they got a long great. When I brought the Boxer home we quickly named her Josie. We tried introducing her to our cat Baby. Instant craziness!! We thought they'd warm up to one another and that it;d blow over. It NEVER did and my cat became a recluse, always in our room to the point I had to move her food and water as well as her cat box to my room. Eventually she got out and never came home. Do I blame her? No. Poor thing.
So Ty and I have played with the idea of getting a another cat over the last few years. Never have. Pat (Ty's mom) wanted to get Cambria a bird for Christmas because she LOVES the movie Rio SO MUCH! I begged her to please NOT get us a bird. I didn't want to have to deal with the constant chirping noise, feathers and seeds. So I said she loves kitties (which she does, says meow meow all the time looking out the window in hopes of seeing a cat) She said okay then decided against it.
Ty and I with the kids went to Pets Mart today and was hoping that if we found a cat they'd hold it until Christmas Eve. I wanted SO BADLY to put it in a box and have the kids open it for Christmas or Christmas Eve. Plans didn't work out that way. We looked and I think we all instantly fell in love with a 9 mth old domestic short hair blue/grey fur with stunning yellow eyes. I wasn't too happy at the fact that it was male but he's been neutered and had all his shots. I didn't want a male afraid it'd spray. They thought he was young enough that he may not know how to do that yet. So that made me happy. With a bit a careful thought and talking amongst ourselves we decided to go ahead and adopt him! :) The kids were so happy and delighted to know that we were bringing a cat home with us.
The ride home at first was a bit nerve racking for him but he soon adjusted. Brought him in the house, it took him a bit to warm up to our Boston Terrier Smug. I don't think they love each other yer but they are getting there. We've been spraying him with water every time he tries using our couches as a scratching post. We bought him a fun scratching wavy post so he better use that if he knows what's good for him ha ha ha Well he's become quite relaxed and I think this was a VERY big decision but I think it was a good one.
